Metropolitan Manila,
formally the National Capital Region (NCR) and often known as Metro Manila, is
the Philippine’s capital region and largest metropolitan area. The region is
situated on the eastern shore of Manila Bay, between the regions of Central
Luzon and Calabarzon.
It is made up of 16 highly urbanized cities: manila, Caloocan,
Las Pias, Makati, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Pasig, Quezon
City, San Juan, Taguig, and Valenzuela, as well as one municipality: Pateros.
As
of 2020, the region had a population of
13,484,462 people and an area of 619.57 square kilometers (239.22 square miles).
It is the philippine’s second most populous and most densely populated area. It
is also the 9th most populous metropolitan area in Asia and the 5th
most populous urban area in the world.
They are composed of
16 independent cities, and 1 independent municipality.
