Provinces & their Capital of the Philippines
Provinces & their Capital of the Philippines
Provinces in the Philippines serve as crucial
political and administrative divisions within the country. Currently, there are
82 provinces, each of which is further divided into component cities and
municipalities. It is important to note the local government units in the
National Capital Region, as well as independent cities, operate independently
without any provincial government oversight. Governance with each province is
carried out by an elected legislature known as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan,
along with an elected governor.
To ensure effective organization and management, the
provinces are categorized into seventeen regions based on geographical,
cultural, and ethnological characteristics. Thirteen of these regions are
designated numerically from north to south. However, the National Capital
Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Southwestern Tagalog Region, and
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao are identified solely by
acronyms.
In additional, every province holds membership in the League of Provinces of the Philippines. This organization is dedicated to addressing various concerns and challenges that impact both provincial and metropolitan government administrations. By fostering collaboration and communication among provinces, the League aims to contribute to the development and progress of the nation as a whole.
